„În 1996, Marclay (acum de 71 ani, pionier al platanelor avangardiste, nativ american crescut în Elveția și stabilit la Londra) a lipit peste 5.000 de postere cu partituri goale în locuri publice din Berlin, în timpul unui festival sonor de aproape o lună. Posterele funcționau ca o invitație deschisă către public de a mâzgăli note muzicale sau orice alt tip de graffiti. Marclay a fotografiat foile pline de graffiti, a selectat 150 din grup și le-a compilat într-un portofoliu destinat a fi interpretat și interpretat de muzicieni. Graffiti Composition este înregistrarea „live” a unui spectacol unic la Muzeul de Artă Modernă din New York în 2006. Conduși de Elliott Sharp, expoziția prezintă cinci chitariști de renume mondial: Melvin Gibbs, Mary Halvorson, Lee Ranaldo, Vernon Reid și Elliot Sharp. Lansarea Graffiti Composition a coincis cu deschiderea Christian Marclay: Festival la Muzeul de Artă Whitney, o expoziție inovatoare care evidențiază interacțiunea dintre vizibil, audibil și „performance”, care este semnul distinctiv al operei lui Marclay. Expoziția s-a concentrat pe partiturile grafice ale artistului: lucrări de artă cu indicii vizuale care urmează să fie interpretate de muzicieni în spectacol, cu prezentări de interpretări „live” zilnice ale unor muzicieni selectați via partiturile lui Marclay și a avut loc în perioada 1 iulie - 26 septembrie 2010”.
